Misa Criolla

Misa Criolla

ars cantandi

“I decided to compose a religious work that would express humanity’s hope for a better world” Ariel Ramirez (1921-2010)

In “Misa Criolla” Ramirez combines the Christian liturgy with the rhythms and melodies of Creole folk music. The Mass was composed during the Second Vatican Council and is no longer sung in Latin, but in the language of the Spanish conquerors. He thus created a kind of reconciliation between European and Latin American culture.
