Last Light Above the World
With Richard Eaton Singers
This concert celebrates the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, November 11, 2018, marking the end of WWI. We present two works: a co-commissioned work by Canadian composer Allan Bevan, “Last Light Above the World”, a cantata for soloists, narrators, chorus and orchestra, which features a range of poetry and prose written by soldiers and their relations during the war, interspersed with selected texts from the Latin Requiem. The other work is Joseph Haydn’s “Mass in Time of War”. Soloists are Jolaine Kerley, soprano; Mairi-Irene McCormack, mezzo-soprano; Caleb Nelson, tenor; and Michael Kurschat, bass. The narrators are Timothy Anderson (representing the soldiers) and Dawn Sadoway (spouses and loved ones of soldiers).
